Credit Union Controller

About the Role
Our credit union client is seeking a seasoned financial leader to take charge of general ledger oversight and ensure the accuracy and integrity of all accounting data. This role will lead core functions such as accounts payable, fixed assets, account reconciliation, and daily liquidity operations, while developing and enforcing robust internal controls and financial policies.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure accurate posting of transactions in line with GAAP, internal policies, and regulations.

Maintain the integrity of all ledgers, including general, loan, deposit, and fixed asset records.

Manage month-end/year-end closings and approve journal entries and reconciliations.

Lead financial forecasting, reporting, and variance analysis.

Oversee AP, fixed assets, cash management, and daily liquidity reporting.

Supervise vendor management and contract oversight, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.

Track capital asset acquisitions and monitor budget alignment.

Support preparation of annual budgets and financial reports.

Participate in asset/liability management committee activities.

Implement and update accounting policies in line with regulatory standards.

Manage departmental operations, staff supervision, and compliance with scheduling policies.

Represent the credit union at sponsored and internal events.

Handle additional duties as needed.
Qualifications

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Proficiency in MS Office and standard office systems.

High attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.

Willingness to pursue further training and travel to other office locations.

Ability to lift up to 15 lbs., with or without accommodation.

Completion of required compliance and data privacy training.
Education and Experience Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

3–5 years of accounting experience; financial services preferred.
-
3–5 years in a supervisory role.
-
CPA preferred.
