Position Summary
The Centerless Grind Operator is responsible for setting up and operating precision centerless grinding equipment to produce high-quality parts within tight tolerances. This role requires experience with automatic and hand-feed grinding and the ability to work from detailed blueprints, work instructions, and established shop practices. Candidates with experience on Cincinnati Centerless Grinders or similar machines are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate precision centerless grinding equipment within machine capabilities, typically holding tolerances of +/– .0005.

Perform TD (through-dress) grinding and work with angle-head and button-head parts, including gauging for proper head protrusion.

Execute hand-feeding techniques using a head stop for precise profile grinding.

Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot automatic loading systems on auto-feed grinders.

Select correct tooling, fixtures, cams, and setup components for each job.

Conduct in-process inspection using micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, protrusion gauges, millimès gauges, and comparators.

Determine proper grinding feed rates, speeds, and wheel parameters for efficient, high-quality production.

Record production counts, run times, and job-related data accurately throughout the shift.

Identify improper equipment performance and make adjustments when appropriate.

Interpret blueprints, drawings, overlays, and manufacturing instructions with strong technical accuracy.

Utilize shop-floor data collection systems for tracking production and quality.

Maintain equipment, ensure a clean work area, and follow all safety protocols.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience

Experience operating centerless grinding machines (Cincinnati or similar highly preferred).

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and overlays.

Skilled in precision measurement and capable of verifying critical dimensions using:

Micrometers

Calipers

Indicators
-
Comparators
-
Gauge blocks
-
Specialized grinding gauges

Understanding of grinding tolerances, material removal rates, and wheel dressing techniques.

Strong troubleshooting ability with both manual and automated grinding setups.

Ability to work independently, follow structured processes, and maintain high standards of quality.
Additional Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs as needed.

Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality.

Reliable attendance and ability to work assigned shift (including overtime if required).
Compensation
Competitive hourly rate based on experience, typically ranging from $28–$40/hour depending on skill level, setup capability, and industry experience.
