Overview:

A public elementary school in South Orange County is seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to provide direct health services to a student requiring specialized medical care throughout the school day. This position includes riding the school bus with the student to and from campus daily, ensuring continuity of care during transport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily suctioning and tube feeding care in accordance with medical orders and established protocols

  • Accompany the student on the school bus each morning and afternoon, ensuring safety and monitoring for any medical needs during transport

  • Monitor and document the student’s health status, responding promptly to any signs of distress or medical intervention

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the student’s healthcare provider

  • Maintain accurate health records and communicate relevant information with designated school and healthcare staff

  • Collaborate with teachers, aides, and specialists to support the student’s participation in classroom activities

  • Assist in developing and implementing Individualized Health Plans (IHPs)

  • Maintain infection control standards and ensure proper handling of medical equipment

Qualifications:

  • Current California LVN license in good standing

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

  • Experience with tracheostomy suctioning and gastrostomy tube feeding (required)

  • Comfortable and reliable in providing care during student transport on a school bus

  • Prior experience in a pediatric, special education, or school setting strongly preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and maintain discretion with sensitive information
