Job Description:
School District in South Orange County is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our team of professionals in providing comprehensive services to students with a wide range of developmental, physical, and cognitive challenges. This role is essential to fostering independence and promoting student success in their educational environments. As an Occupational Therapist, you will work closely with educators, families, and other professionals to support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.
Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments of students’ fine motor skills, sensory processing, and activities of daily living (ADLs) to develop individualized intervention plans.

Intervention Services: Develop and implement individualized therapy plans that are aligned with students’ educational goals, focusing on improving their ability to participate in school-related activities and routines.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with teachers, school staff, parents, and other specialists to ensure the effective implementation of therapy goals within the educational setting.

Adaptive Equipment and Strategies: Provide recommendations for and assist in the use of adaptive equipment and modifications to support students’ functional independence in the classroom.

Progress Monitoring: Regularly monitor, document, and report on students’ progress toward therapy goals. Modify treatment plans as needed to address changes in students’ needs and progress.

Professional Development: Stay current on best practices, new developments in occupational therapy, and state/federal regulations impacting services for students with disabilities. Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.

Compliance: Ensure all services are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including IEP (Individualized Education Program) requirements, as well as district policies and procedures.
Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

Licensure:
-
Valid and current license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California.

Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred.

Experience:
-
At least one year of experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.

Experience in developing and implementing individualized therapy plans and providing services to students with various disabilities (e.g., autism, developmental delays, physical disabilities).

Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and parents.

Ability to adapt therapy techniques to meet the individual needs of students.

Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding special education and related services.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage caseloads efficiently.

Experience with a variety of therapeutic tools and equipment to support students’ functional needs.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to move and lift students as necessary.

Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods.
