Our client, a well-established electronics manufacturing partner with advanced operations in both the U.S. and Canada, is seeking an SMT Process Engineer to support their facility in Tempe, Arizona. With a track record of over two decades in delivering high-performance, scalable manufacturing solutions across sectors including energy, defense, industrial, and communications, this company emphasizes reliability, technical innovation, and operational agility.
This SMT Process Engineer role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineering professional with strong experience in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and a drive for continuous process optimization in a high-mix, fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities

Develop and maintain SMT processes to enhance performance and accuracy of placement equipment.

Produce and improve detailed process documentation including procedures, instructions, and flowcharts.

Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions to uphold product quality.

Enforce adherence to IPC manufacturing standards.

Coordinate and participate in cross-functional process improvement initiatives.

Deliver daily technical troubleshooting support for production equipment and ensure line readiness.

Support Lean and continuous improvement practices within the facility.

Optimize thermal profiles, stencil designs, soldering techniques, AOI programming, and related manufacturing processes.

Uphold workplace health and safety standards and actively address potential hazards.

Align departmental workflows with the company’s QMS protocols.

Mentor and train team members on best practices in process engineering and issue resolution.

Evaluate and recommend new tools or equipment to improve manufacturing capabilities.
Qualifications
-
Technical diploma or degree, with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred background in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.

Proven experience working with electronic manufacturing tools and systems.

Solid understanding of SMT, through-hole, and mechanical assembly techniques.

Prior background in a process engineering capacity within an electronics production environment.

Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., MS Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Experience using ERP platforms in a manufacturing context.

Willingness to support production during extended hours when needed.
