Job Summary: We are seeking a hands-on, experienced, and results-driven Director of Human Resources to lead and manage the HR functions. This individual will be responsible for establishing and maintaining HR policies, driving recruitment processes, and ensuring legal compliance across all areas of HR. You’ll play a pivotal role in managing a team of four HR professionals, creating efficient processes, and leading special projects that align with the company’s goals. You will be a strategic partner who helps shape our workforce through thoughtful decisions that promote employee engagement, retention, and the overall health and wealth of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & HR Operations:
    • Develop, implement, and monitor effective HR strategies, processes, and policies to support organizational goals.
    • Hands-on experience, knowledge, and guidance working alongside the team and leading by example to inspire the Human Resources team.
    • Make informed, confident decisions to drive the company’s health and growth.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive company culture while maintaining a professional atmosphere.
    • Work closely with leadership to ensure HR practices align with company values and business objectives.

 

 

  • Recruitment & Talent Acquisition:
    • Manage and oversee the recruiting and hiring process for both blue-collar and white-collar positions, ensuring accurate job descriptions that attract the right candidates.
    • Lead efforts to ensure competitive, legal, and compliant recruitment practices.
    • Assist with workforce planning and provide strategic guidance on staffing and retention.
  • Compliance & Legal:
    • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local labor laws, with a specific focus on California regulations.
    • Oversee background checks, drug tests, educational verifications, and relocation processes.
    • Stay current on compliance laws, regulations, and best practices related to employee rights, compensation, work comp, and employer-of-record documentation.
    • Maintain up-to-date policies and procedures in line with current legal standards.
  • Employee Retention & Development:
    • Implement initiatives to retain talent and promote long-term employee satisfaction and engagement across all levels.
    • Provide guidance on employee relations issues, mediate conflict, and develop initiatives to foster a high-performance work culture.
    • Identify opportunities for employee training and development to help grow internal talent.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of HR professionals, providing direction and support.
    • Collaborate with other departments on special HR-related projects such as compensation analysis, budget planning, and strategic workforce initiatives.
  • Compensation & Benefits:
    • Contribute to compensation strategy, including compensation analysis, benchmarking, and providing recommendations for salary adjustments and benefits packages.
    • Help create and manage departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective and competitive compensation structures.
  • Special Projects:
    • Drive and participate in special projects related to people management, hiring, organizational development, and more.
    • Offer solutions to HR challenges that arise in a growing and evolving company.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of proven experience as an HR leader, preferably with experience in both blue-collar and white-collar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, including California-specific regulations, work comp laws, and employer-of-record documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement HR processes and procedures from scratch.
  • Experience with recruitment and talent acquisition, including crafting accurate job descriptions and implementing effective recruitment strategies.
  • A results-oriented leader who is emotionally strong, able to thrive in an environment of constant change while maintaining a steady focus on team and company objectives.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team, fostering collaboration and growth.
  • Ability to lead through influence and inspire through action, with hands-on experience and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (PHR/SPHR certification a plus).
